| The
Western Scrabble Network believes that an effective community has
representation across all age groups. To this end, WSN is committed
to assisting interested teachers in developing Scrabble as an activity
for the students of their school. To enable us to provide this service,
we are seeking the following:
- Teachers
who are prepared to spend one lunchtime each week for the purpose
of running an in-school Scrabble meeting;
- Preferably,
these teachers should have a basic understanding of the game.
Ideally, they should enjoy playing the game;
- School Principals
who are keen to expand the extra-curricular offerings of the school,
with appropriate support from committed volunteers from the Western
Scrabble Network and the broader Scrabble community;
- School children
who are keen to commence a group, and would like us to formally
approach their school to get one started;
- A willingness
to learn the tournament style of playing;
- A willingness
to consider participating in Scrabble events outside of the
school community, given appropriate preparation and invitations.
Such events include: inter-school competitions, junior tournaments,
regular tournaments hosted by the member clubs of the Australian
Scrabble Players Association (ASPA).
We welcome enquiries
from all areas and we will endeavour to put you into contact with
someone who will be able to assist.
If you are a
school student, teacher or principal and you would like to see a
Scrabble Club started in your school, we would love to hear
from you.
What we offer:
- For a minimal
cost, we will provide a starter kit which will contain two game
sets, a Macquarie dictionary, a booklet of internationally used
two and three-letter words with definitions, laminated word lists,
rules of play and more;
- More importantly,
you will receive assistance in getting your club off the ground.
We will give you suggestions to make playing more fun and useful
tips which will help your club run more smoothly;
- Included
in the initial package is 12 months ASPA membership for
the school, valued at $20. This will enable students and teachers
of the school to attend Scrabble Tournaments at reduced rates
and will ensure that the school receives the quarterly Across
The Board magazine, which has lots of useful articles and
news items relating to Scrabble and the Scrabble community;
- Also included
in the package are two Macquarie Dictionaries.
- Youll
become part of the broader Scrabble Community! This includes
players of all ages and backgrounds from right around Australia
and the English-speaking world. You will also be provided with
ongoing support.
