Tournaments
WSN Online Round Robin Tournament The Western Scrabble Network plans to offer a number of Internet tournaments each year. You must be a member of Western Scrabble Network to participate. We use the Internet Scrabble Network to play.

Western Scrabble Network also offers matchplay style tournaments to members. The format of these tournaments is that the loser of each round will be excluded from the next round, with winners continuing on to play another winner in their half of the draw.

Western Scrabble Network held it inaugural tournament on March 27th 2004 at Springwwod NSW. Click here˙˙˙˙ to read a report.

THE TOURNAMENT SCENE

There’s an average of about 2-3 tournaments every month held generally within 100 km of each major capital city. Typically, these you’ll play between 6 and 8 games, with 20-25 minutes per side. Occasionally, there are “marathon” events, or variations to the theme, such as “speedy” tournaments. Tournaments are a great opportunity to meet with other players surrounding regions. Warning: they can be addictive – if you have a partner, you might want to also introduce them to Scrabble – you have been warned!

Are you ready for tournament scrabble? Find out here.

We encourage you join the Western Scrabble Network which will enable you to get together with other members to practice and hone your Scrabble skills for these tournaments. We want to see you do well and proudly fly the WSN flag (well, we don’t have a flag yet – maybe you could design one). We also would encourage WSN members to carpool or vanpool (yes, they are both allowable words!) to events.

(Note: an asterisk after a word, e.g. nibblies*, is standard Scrabble convention to designate a non-allowable word – these words have not yet made it into either of the Chambers or the Merriam-Webster dictionaries).

PREPARING FOR TOURNAMENTS

There are various ways in which we can assist members to prepare for tournaments. Please contact one of the committee members and we will be pleased to offer assistance. All members of the committee are active tournament players.
